About Karen Porter
Karen Porter produces KarenPorterOnline.com. Porter is a professional writer with 16+ years experience in magazine, newspaper and business writing. Porter has worked in multiple corporate and higher education environments, holding different positions at different times (and sometimes simultaneously) that included fund-raising, writing and administrative support. She has produced and published websites and e-zines since 2004 that cover topics ranging from home organization to career and workplace skills. Recently she also has started blogging too on multiple issues.
As a former freelance writer for both major and lesser-known consumer and trade publications, some of her favorite article assignment topics included (and still include) writing about workplace issues; pets; consumer money management, shopping and bargains; preventive health and safety; and home and business organization. Her freelance writing work appeared in local, national and regional publications.
She contributed articles about pets to The Washington Post and Family Circle, wrote about the benefits of laughter clubs for the Christian Science Monitor and told readers how to save money on big ticket purchase items for Woman’s Day. She interviewed and profiled manufacturers best practices for one trade magazine and offered workplace tips in articles for magazines devoted to administrative professionals.
She told readers where to find hot shopping buys in Woman’s Own and profiled community members for her local newspaper. She visited regional manufacturers and wrote about successful projects or changes they made for the benefit of their company productivity processes, employees and the economy for a corporate newsletter.
Additionally, she publishes her own newsletter called The Effective Admin for the benefit of 3000+ administrative professionals and has done so since 2004. The website at TheEffectiveAdmin.com attracts thousands of viewers annually.
Porter also publishes the website EasyHomeOrganizing.com, sharing her own tips and collecting articles and tips from others to share with readers trying to get organized at home. EasyOrganizingFinds.com is her blog too. In it she shares life, work and home organizing tips and products. You may notice the theme there is EASY! So many people look for complicated solutions in life when the answer can be an easy one. Successful solutions to many life dilemmas, including organizational ones, often can be simple!
For fun Porter also recently started blogging about chocolate at SpeakingofChocolate.com (which so far only serves to make her hungry for chocolate with each new entry so she put that blog on hiatus for a while. But you can still go there to read some neat stuff about chocolate. It’s calorie free to read!).
This blog, KarenPorterOnline.com, takes a more serious tone by providing advice and commentary on personal and professional development. The goal of it is to help people be more successful in life—whether that is at work or at home—as well as to provide thoughtful viewpoints that allow people to expand their own mind and thoughts.
Porter is a skilled researcher and writer who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Florida. She resides in the southeastern United States with her husband.
